Council calls for sites to be developed
A few months ago, North Yorkshire Council (NYC) asked landowners and developers to submit proposals for sites they wanted to develop, as part of the process for preparing a new local plan for the county.
NYC has just published the map showing all such sites, and it makes for scary reading. Vast swathes of the countryside are proposed to be developed.
Of particular interest is the section showing Scorton Lakes, which, if it came to pass at anything like the scale indicated, will completely wipe out the environmental quality of this beautiful area. Here is a screenshot of that part of the map, and a link to the full document.
NYC is emphasising that the plan only represents landowner aspirations, and the identification of any one site does not imply that it has any likelihood of being approved for development. However, it would be naïve to pretend that it does not represent a very real threat to Scorton Lakes, and to Scorton village itself.
See a map with all the proposed sites here.
